In this study, an experimental method for predicting sound transmission loss (STL) of corrugated steel panels for railroad vehicles is presented. Although corrugated steel panel has superior bending stiffness per weight, the sound insulation performance is greatly reduced in a specific frequency band due to local resonance occurring in the corrugation unit. As a result, the predicted value of STL by the mass law is significantly different from the experimental value. In particular, in the frequency band where the modal density is maximum, STL shows the greatest decrease. In the proposed method, the mass law was corrected with the measurement data, and the band shifting technique using the pattern of the decrease in STL was applied. The validity of the prediction results was verified through experiments. © 2022 The Korean Society for Railway. All rights reserved.
