초록
This is a comparative study conducted between the social consciousness found in the female protagonist introduced to us in the ancient Chinese book called, “The Book of Songs, Songs of Wei, Meng,” and the ideology of female liberalism that emerged during the Western Enlightenment era. Despite the distant time and regions of the two, the anti-male-chauvinistic-climate was the basic attitude found in those living through male chauvinistic eras. The fundamental idea of feminists throughout the East and the West is based on gender equality and their rights to freedom. The issue of the gender right has been recognized as an invariable fact in the history of mankind that cannot be yielded to a particular gender regardless of any particular time or place. Thus, the consciousness and behavior of the female protagonist found in “Meng” were derived from the spirit of feminism. The female protagonist’s accusation and warnings on the discrepancies found in men’s society made a contribution to the awakening of women's consciousness that later became the foundation of establishing a society founded on gender equality.
