Antimicrobial Activity of Bacillus velezensis MBEL804 Isolated from Kimchi against Livestock Pathogen Salmonella Serovars; [김치 유래 Bacillus velezensis MBEL804 균주의 가축 유해균 Salmonella에 대한 항균활성]

Bacillus strains isolated from kimchi were tested for antimicrobial activity against Salmonella enterica serovar Gallinarum, serovar Derby, serovar Typhimurium, and serovar Enteritidis using a disk diffusion assay. Based on the inhibition zone, MBEL804 was selected for its potent antimicrobial activity. Specifically, MBEL804 demonstrated the highest antimicrobial activity against S. Typhimurium. After sequencing the 16S rRNA and gyrA genes, MBEL804 was identified as Bacillus velezensis. It was concluded that B. velezensis MBEL804 provides critical data on its ability to inhibit Salmonella serovars; however, further research is needed to identify the active compounds and elucidate their mechanisms of action.
