Effect of Valence Neutron(s) in Neutron-rich Nuclei

In our study, we used the measured elastic cross sections for heavy ion collisions, and we extracted the total reaction cross sections and the interaction distance from the ratios of the elastic differential cross section to the Rutherford differential cross section for projectiles with and without valence neutron(s). Subsequently, we obtained the Coulomb barrier height from the extracted total reaction cross sections by using Wong' formula. Further, we investigated the relation between the obtained interaction distance and the Coulomb barrier height. As a result, we found that for valence neutron(s), the Coulomb barrier height is reduced by the presence of valence neutron(s), and the interaction distance (or the interaction radius) is increased.
