Frequency domain packet scheduling for single-cell multimedia broadcast multicast services in 3GPP LTE

In 3GPP long term evolution (LTE), support of multimedia broadcast multicast services (MBMS) is an essential requirement. We propose a frequency domain packet scheduler (FDPS) algorithm for single-cell point-to-Multipoint (SC-PtM) to enhance system throughput of PtM mode MBMS in the 3GPP LTE system, in which physical resource blocks (PRBs) are dynamically allocated to MBMS users based on knowledge of feedback channel quality information (CQI). The simulation results show that the proposed FDPS scheme with the objective of maximizing the number of MBMS users that can be served within the given cell provides better performance than the existing blind FDPS in terms of the outage probability and cell throughput.
