Systematic risk in the casino industry

초록
Even though the casino industry is essential in the hospitality industry, the panel-based examination of determinants of systematic risk has been limited. This study examines the determinants of systematic risk in the US casino industry. Using publicly traded casino firms, this study presents the determinants of systematic risk. The data are derived from COMPUSTAT by employing North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 721120. The study used panel data ranging from 2000 to 2012. By employing a random effect model pursuant to the results of a Hausman test, this study found that return on assets (ROA), asset turnover (ATO), and investment in fixed assets (FA) negatively affected the systematic risk of US casino firms.
