A concise and efficient synthesis of the trans-hydrindane system has been achieved by a novel intramolecular S(N)2' enolate alkylation/ring-closing metathesis (RCM) strategy with a good degree of stereocontrol. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
