The Influential Attributes of Drug Tourism Focusing on the Theory of Planned Behavior and Escape: Moderating Role of Antidrug Information

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to examine the explanatory power of the theory of planned behavior in the domain of drug tourism. Another goal of this work is to explore the moderating effect of anti-drug information on the effect of escape on both attitude and intention to visit. Design/methodology/approach: The main instrument used in this study was a survey. For data collection, this research selected clickworkers. The number of observations was 317. This research employed a structural equation model to test the hypotheses. Findings: Attitude and subjective norms exerted positive effects on the intention to visit drug tourism destinations. Additionally, the results revealed that escape had a positive impact on both attitude and intention to visit. Research limitations/implications: Escapism contents would play a crucial role to appeal tourists to tourist destinations with a negative reputation due to drug problems. Yet, this research is possibly limited by not specifying the tourist destination for drug tourism. Originality/value: This research contributes to the literature by supporting the theory of planned behavior in drug tourism.
