This study aimed at determining the nutrient composition of dried fly larvae that appeared during biodegradation of chicken droppings using house flies and the effectiveness of addition of fly larvae to feed in terms of broiler performance. A chemical analysis indicated that dried fly larvae contained 63.99% crude protein, 24.31% crude fat, 2.01% calcium, and 1.32% phosphorus with ME determined at 4.14 kcal/g. They contained 35.89% saturated fatty acids, 64.11% unsaturated fatty acids, 16.44% linoleic acid, and 21.75% oleic acid. In addition, dried fly larvae had a good composition of essential amino acids and greater protein and essential amino acid digestibility of 98.50% and 94.80%. 600 one-day-old male chicks(Ross) of commercial broilers were assigned in a completely random way into 5 treatment groups × 3 repeat pens (120 birds per treatment group, 40 per repeat pen) to examine growing performance for 35 days. The control feed based on corn and soybean meal and experimental feeds containing 5.0%, 10.0%, 15.0%, and 20.0% fly larvae were adjusted to have the identical protein and energy contents. Body weight gain and feed conversion ratio were significantly improved in treatment groups given experimental feed containing fly larvae as compared to broiler chicks in the control group(p<0.05). These results suggest that dried house fly larvae resulting from the biological processing of chicken droppings can be used properly as the source of nutrients to produce broiler chickens.
