초록

Despite a significant increase in the range of motion, treatment of severe cavovarus foot with various techniques of external fixation improves patient satisfaction by achieving a painless plantigrade foot.(7-9,11,17,22,27,34) Considering the varying etiology, possible neurovascular and other soft-tissue compromise, and coexisting deformities, treatment of a cavovarus foot is challenging, especially in severe cases. Often, acute correction may not be sufficient. In fact, severe vascular damage can occur with acute corrections, which may eventually lead to catastrophic amputation of the foot. Therefore, gradual correction with external fixation is preferred as one of the first-line-treatment options for such rigid and severe cavovarus deformities.
