A Contrastive Study of Morphological Causatives in Korean and Uzbek

초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the morphological causatives in Korean and Uzbek from the viewpoint of morphology, syntactics, semantics and confirm the concrete differences and similarities of the two language causatives. From the morphological viewpoints, the derivative causative verb is made by irregular attaching the causative affixes(-i-, -hi-, -li-, -ki-, -u-, -ku-, -chu- etc) to adjective root as well as verb root in Korean, while the derivative causative verb is made by phonological regular attaching the causative affixes(-tir, -dir, -giz etc) only to verb in Uzbek, so Uzbek adjectives are transformed into verb and then the causative affixes can be attached. In particular, Uzbek double causative exhibits the indirect causative meaning which is realized mainly in Korean syntactical causatives. In Uzbek morphological causative which is derived from transitive verb, the case marker of causee mainly can be dative. Also there is no syntactic causative in Uzbek causative, so the dative of causee show the indirect causative meaning. From the sematic viewpoints, Korean causatives show the direct and indirect causative meaning each through morphological and syntactic causative realization, while Uzbek morphological causative show both the direct and indirect causative meaning, in particular, the indirect meaning is specifically appeared in double causative realization.
