A New Polymer Gel-Based Chemo-Mechanical Caries Removal Agent (Carigel™) for Children with Early Childhood Caries

This study aims at introducing a new method for treating early childhood caries in the primary incisors of very young patients. Chemo-mechanical caries removal (CMCR) technique is one of the various methods used for caries removal. Carigel (TM) is an example of a CMCR agent. After removal of dental caries using Carigel (TM), celluloid crown forms were modified to fit the corresponding prepared teeth. After verifying their fit, the crowns were filled with RelyX (TM) Unicem, which was originally developed to be used as a dental cement and not as a restorative material. The crowns were then seated on the prepared teeth and photopolymerized. We achieved satisfactory esthetic results by restoring the Cariger (TM)-treated teeth with RelyX (TM) Unicem using a celluloid strip crown form.
