Suppression for Flow-Induced Vibration of a Circular Cylinder by Using Flexible Sheet

초록

This study is related to the suppression for flow-induced vibration occurred in a circular cylinder among the fluid flow (airstream) by using different types of flexible sheet. With free-vibration tests, the characteristics of the vibration was experimented on the circular cylinder with flexible sheet attached, and the dependency of suppressibility on the flow velocity was also determined. The optimal values in length and width of the different sheets, including various shapes of triangle and strip types, and the vibration suppression mechanism and its effect were investigated with varying the suppressor's dimensions in various patterns; the lengths are in the range of 0.5∼3D, where D is the cylinder diameter. As results, successful works have been achieved concerning the suppression mechanism of the vibration, the optimal shapes and sizes of various suppressors and its suppression effect, which have not been known up to now.
