This review introduced the origins and geochemical behavior of carbon dioxide (CO2) in soil environments, with a focus on the carbon cycle and sequestration. Soil is complex reservoirs interacting with organic matter, minerals, water, and microorganisms to influence carbon cycle. The soil carbon categorize into organic carbon and inorganic carbon, examining their natural and anthropogenic sources. It analyzed that various geochemical factors, such as soil pH, microbial activity, and mineral composition etc, influence the CO2 production, mobility, and sequestration in soil. Additionally, the effects of atmospheric CO2 concentrations were discussed relative to the geochemical behavior of CO2 in soil. The findings provide understanding for developing effective soil carbon sequestration strategies.
