Generally, baristas do not seem to pay attention to the noise and vibration generated by coffee roasters as they primarily focus on preparing and serving good coffee. However, such aspects of coffee roasters cannot be ignored, particularly in a home or small coffee shop setting. To reduce the levels of noise and vibration when roasters are operating in quiet places, experiments and analyses based on computer simulations were conducted. Upon the finding that operating conditions and mixture status of coffee beans are the source of noise and vibration, several changes were made to candidate components such as blower design, blower motor speeds, and interior obstacles. While noise and vibration reduction across a wide frequency range was not completely achieved, modifications to the blower design resulted in meaningful reduction of noise and vibration at specific points.
