Residents' attitude toward tourism development in Kangwon Do abandoned mine area

초록

The main purpose of this study was to develop a residents' attitudes model by theoretically systematizing host attitudes based a review of the previous literature. Five factors were found to influence residents' attitude toward tourism development. These are state of the local economy, ecocentric value, awareness of tourism development projects in the community, perceived benefits, and perceived costs. A questionnaire was developed by utilizing residents' attitudes. To collect data distributed stratified judgement sampling and convenient sampling of simple random method was used. A self-administered survey was conducted for residents at abandoned mine areas in Kangwon-Do. These areas are currently strongly developing a mega resort complex. The 522 usable questionnaires were collected. By testing the hypotheses through an estimation of model, 5 of 5 hypotheses were adopted. The residents' attitude toward tourism development is influenced by the local economy, ecocentric value, awareness of tourism development projects in the community, perceived benefits, and perceived costs.
