Field emission characteristics of cone-shaped carbon-nanotube bundles fabricated using an oxygen plasma

The field-emission (FE) characteristics were investigated for cone-shaped multi-walled carbonnanotube (MWCNT) bundles fabricated by using an oxygen plasma. Uniformly-distributed coneshaped MWCNT bundles of varying ratios of diameter to height were obtained through control of the ion energy and dose of the irradiating plasma. In addition, the FE properties could be improved by controlling the inter-tip distance to minimize the field-screening effect. Results suggest the possibility of developing a plasma-assisted method for the fabrication of MWCNT-based FE tips.
