Search for New Directions toward the Reorganization of World History: Trends in the Studies of Central Asian History, 2008-2011

초록

A number of studies were published in the field of central Asian history from 2008 to 2011. A breakout this research is as follows: 16 independent volumes (excluding independent volumes translated by the Northeast Asian History Foundation), two doctoral theses, five masters theses and 45 major research theses. The number of research efforts was found to have increased considering the smaller number of researchers compared to other areas. In particular, a disproportionately large number of independent volumes were published. These independent volumes attempted to interpret world history from the point of view of the reorganization of history that followed the foundation of the Mongol Empire in the 13th to 14th centuries. Researchers made efforts to investigate Central Asia, China and the Korean Peninsula as part of a wider continuum, a fact that was encouraging. Papers attempted to interpret relations between Mongol and Goryeo within a frame of international relations history, and investigated political, economic and social problems based on careful cognition of the realities at hand. Some papers investigated causes of current problems of minorities such as Uighur and the Mongolian populations as a means to reach reasonable conclusions. Further efforts could deepen their area of studies and blend with each other to produce new types of findings.
