초록

I examine carefully the changes of commerce and market in Kangwon province during Japanese compulsory occupation. And I inquire the historical meaning in those changes. I think that this task will contribute to understand the state of human life during that period and to know the historical character of Japanese compulsory occupation. At that time usually opening stores which were managed by Japanese merchants in cities and periodically opening traditional markets in rural areas coexisted. On the contrary the development of usually opening stores which were managed by Korean merchants could not find specially in Kangwon province. Because the income level and purchasing power of Koreans were extremely low. And such circumstances did not improved, instead got worse as time passed. In occasion of Kangwon province commerce and market did not changed as result of economic growth, but rolled by the intension and control of Japanese imperialist. The number of markets increased highly, and the volume of dealings swelled greatly. Nevertheless the development of wholesale markets or usually opening stores which were managed by Korean merchants was very weak, and even the possibility of such development almost did not remain. Conclusively periodical markets were prevalent according to the intension of Japanese imperialist who wanted to turn over the cost for market opening to Koreans, and planned to promote efficiency for exploitation, and tried to find clues for the stability of the distributive system. And the probability that suitable distributive machinery for Korea would develop automatically was interrupted and distorted by intensional obstruction and interference of Japanese imperialist.
