EFL Instructional Procedures for Critical Media Literacy

This study demonstrates a sequential set of instructional procedures for critical media literacy on argumentative / persuasive media text. In formulating four-dimensional instructional procedures applicable to EFL (English as a Foreign Language) classroom settings, elicitation is used as an analytical instrument through a conceptual review and explorations of contemporary literature and theoretical backgrounds on the approaches, objectives and validity of critical pedagogy. To encourage the student to recognize the needs and values of critical language awareness, detailed descriptions and explications have been provided by analyzing an actual persuasive media text selected for the purpose of this inquiry
