Neutron detection efficiency of Al2O3:C coated with various thicknesses of Li using OSL

Over recent years, significant developments in OSL have been made regarding radiation dosimetry, age determination, and medical applications. In these applications, Al2O3:C has attracted great interest as the most promising material because of its excellent OSL properties. Although Al2O3:C has a high sensitivity to alpha, beta, and gamma radiation, the material has the disadvantage of insufficiency of sensitivity to neutrons. In this study, we have investigated neutron detection efficiency of Al2O3:C crystal coated with various thicknesses of Li using OSL As a result, the OSL intensity increases as the thickness of Li becomes thicker, up to 7.6 mu m thickness of Li investigated in this study. In addition, we found neutron detection sensitivity was not linearly proportional to the thickness of Li. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
