초록

The purpose of this study was to understand unmarried single mothers' child rearing experience and the essence of its meaning through a direct interview with them who brought up child out of a social protective network after leaving ‘a group home for unmarried single mothers’.The question of this study was “what did you experience in child rearing after leaving ‘a group home for unmarried single mothers’ ?”. To achieve this purpose, this study selected single mothers who left ‘a group home for unmarried single mothers’ before less than 3 years as the subjects, and applied phenomenological methodology to reveal the essence and structure of experience in rearing child. The results of this study were summarized as follows. Meaningful statements were derived by reading original materials about unmarried single mothers' child rearing experience several times. 19 subcategories were organized with consistent meanings restated by general language from meaningful statements. Finally, six subjects were grouped: ‘negative neighbors’ eyes', ‘poor child rearing situation’, ‘distant public institutions’, ‘a conflict about child rearing decision’, ‘newly established relationship network’, and ‘embrace the hard realities and self-support’.
