A Case of Acquired Stuttering in Patient with Acute Infarction in Corpus Callosum

초록

Stuttering is defined as disruption of the fluency of verbal expression characterized by the involuntary repetition or prolongation in the utterance of sounds and syllables. Although developmental stuttering is relatively common in childhood, acquired stuttering result from brain damage is rarely reported. Various etiologies such as trauma, extrapyramidal system disorders, stroke, migraine and multiple sclerosis have been reported as possible causes of acquired stuttering. However, its mechanisms are poorly understood. A 52-year-old man was admitted due to speech disturbance which was characterized as stuttering. A brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed acute infarction in left corpus callosum. We report a case of acquired stuttering result from acute infarction in corpus callosum without any signs of inter-hemispheric disconnection. (Korean Journal of Stroke 2007;9:76-78)
