The antibacterial effect of Camellia japonica extract on oral microorganisms

In our study, we aim to investigate the antifungal effect of Camellia japonica extract against the representative oral infectious fungus, Candida albicans. We measured the antifungal efficacy of Camellia japonica extract against C. albicans using the paper disc method and the inhibitory effect on acid production. In this study, Camellia japonica extract demonstrated antifungal activity approximately 18mm against C. albicans. the results of measuring pH changes during culturing in order to investigate whether Camellia japonica extract inhibits acid production by C. albicans. As a result, we used the natural substance of Camellia japonica extract to treat Candida infection, and confirmed antiseptic efficacy, and a reducing effect on acid production. We determined that Camellia japonica extract has antiseptic effects against C. albicans infection. Moreover, as well as expressing an antiseptic effect, the extract was revealed to also contribute to inhibiting acid production. Therefore, the application of Camellia japonica extract to C. albicans, which causes oral inflammation, should take up position as an excellent antiseptic agent. © Research India Publications.
