Central Temperature Behaviors and Spontaneous Ignition and Combustion of Various Bituminous Coal Balls under Constant Ambient Temperature Conditions

초록

For five specific bituminous coals imported from foreign countries, which are mainly used in Electric Power Plants and Cement Manufacturing Factories in Korea, their thermal characteristics were firstly analyzed and then the spontaneous ignition and combustion were observed. The central temperature behaviors of the pulverized weathered coals within three sized ball-type vessels, so called coal balls, within an oven were investigated at constant ambient temperatures of 130 ℃ and / or 140 ℃. It was not generally found that the central temperature and ignition induction time are dependant upon the vessel size due to the superiority of self-heating rate vs. heat transfer rate of the coal. Particularly, it may be said that the volatile component of bituminous coals plays an important role in occurring the spontaneous ignition when its level is higher than a certain value, to say 20 %, while it does not possibly make sense that higher volatile component has something to do with the priority of the onset of the spontaneous ignition over the certain value.
