Measurement of the Changes of Muscle Activity and Joint Angles of Legs to Prevent Ski Sports Injury

The aim of this study was to analyze the performance of simulated skiing by experienced ski instructors and to identify the muscle activity differences and muscle fatigue changes in the movements of the lower limb joints. Participants in this study's experiment were 8 male skiers (average age: 29.25±3.2 years, average height: 177.25±6.0cm, average weight: 72.75±7.0kg, average number of career: 7.5±2.3 years). This experiment was conducted using a motion analysis system and electromyography analysis system. The low extremity joint's ranges of angles were measured, and hamstring, gastrocnemius, rectus femoris, tibialis anterior muscle activity and muscle fatigue were measured. After performing skiing motions on a ski-simulator, muscle activity and muscle fatigue increased in muscle rectus femoris and muscle tibialis anterior. The ROM (range of motion) of hip joint became small in all the events, and the ROM of knee joint became large in the event 1, 2, 3 and there was a change of the ROM of ankle joint to become small in the event 4, 5. To prevent ski injury, it is thought that training program to strengthen muscle rectus femoris and to increase the flexibility and muscular strength of ankle is necessary.
