초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of new nurses in establishing a relationship with senior nurses. A phenomenological methodology was used for this study. The participants were 14 new nurses and 16 senior nurses who were working at different units in several university hospitals. In-depth interviews were done for data collection and the data were analyzed using the Colaizzi's method. According to the interview data analysis, we could drive 7 theme clusters and 15 themes. The three theme clusters of new nurses' relationship experiences included "Concealing their feeling caused by fear of the senior, " "Entering the senior's culture" and "Being improved by seniors' assistance." The four theme clusters of senior nurses included "Narrowing the gap, " "Taming new nurses, " "Troublesome new nurses and the burden of caring for them" and "Being improved by teaching new nurses." The results of this study showed that senior nurses had relatively strong power than new nurses in their relations. Even though they had different powers in the workplace, they had the same goal, which was to improve themselves. New nurses were improved as skillful nurses with seniors' assistance and senior nurses were improved by tutoring new nurses. © 2017 International Information Institute.
