Study of military hospitals’ control plan for tuberculosis in north Korea in preparation for unification

In the early 1990s, North Korea suffered from economic hardship and power shortage due to collapse of the socialist system and weakening of its external relations, and it has also been exposed to numerous infectious diseases due to natural disasters. Unless tuberculosis (TB) infection control plans are discussed in advance, TB will become a major cause of the increase in the unification costs of South Korea. In a TB infection control plan, the response strategies of the military medical system, which may play a key role in medical security during the period of confusion at the beginning of the unification, are essential. This study aimed to describe strategies for TB infection control that are required for the military medical environment in preparation for a gradual and peaceful unification, as well as to propose measures to establish them. ©Rushing Water Publishers Ltd. 2019.
