인도네시아 자바인의 수평적 사회관계: 루꾼 개념을 중심으로

초록

The purpose of this paper is to examine social relations of the Javanese, especially among those who are perceived to be socially equal. The reason the Javanese are selected is their importance in contemporary Indonesian society. By looking at the Javanese, it is expected that we may take a glimpse at characteristics in social relations of the Indonesian in general. The second part of this paper investigates the concept of rukun, which constitutes the core of the socio-cultural behavior of the Javanese. The next part deals with several social practices which facilitate the smooth working of rukun such as gotong-royong, musyawarah and mufakat. The last part discusses religious practices and concepts which support the maintenance of rukun. It is expected that this paper gives a general picture of how the Javanese behave in everyday life, which will provide the novices to the Javanese culture with a reference point to grasp how the Indonesian society works.
