Spatio-temporal Characteristics of Peak Pressures on a Low-rise Building

초록

Characteristics of extreme building pressures measured on a model of the Texas Tech University (TTU) test building are discussed in the paper. The peak over threshold method is applied to study properties of peak pressure events. They include: peak duration, energy contribution, number and the average shape of the events. Two locations on the building surface are considered: the roof corner region and the building centerline. The effects of turbulence intensity on the peak events in the roof corner region are also investigated. Strongly non-Gaussian roof pressure in the flow separation region and approximately Gaussian pressure in the vortex region were observed. The effects of turbulence intensity are more pronounced in the flow separation region. The peak over threshold method appears to be an effective technique to determine the average peak shapes and other pertinent temporal characteristics of the wind pressure peak events.
