This study was conducted to provide appropriate tending operation strategies for natural deciduous forests, by evaluating the stand quality, suggesting a removal plan for undesirable trees, and predicting improvement cutting practice by evaluation of tree-form quality. The results showed that average number of trees per hectare was 804 stems, average diameter at breast height (DBH) was 22.3cm, and average height was 14.3 m. The canopy dominant species, in order of incidence, were Quercus serrata, Q. variabilis, Q. mongolica, and Fraxinus rhynchophylla. Based on the grades of five tree-form quality factors for all trees in the study plots, we estimated the change of tree numbers, DBH, and height with the improvement cutting according to different tree quality grades. The application of the higher grade to the tending operation decreased the number of trees without significant change in DBH and height, suggesting an obvious improvement in the stand quality.
