A Comparative Study of Reward Preference in India and Korea

초록

This study examines reward preferences of Indian and Korean employees. Previous studiesmostly used the Hofstede cultural value model to compare work values across countries. However, there have been few attempts to investigate reward preferences of Indian employeesdespite the importance of the Indian market to multinational corporations. In particular, thisstudy attempts to analyze reward preference based on the updated framework of Hofstede'svalue model to reflect the possibility of cultural changes in India. The results from the studyshow that the updated model is more powerful at explaining the reward preference of Indianemployees. Specifically, Indian employees exhibited a stronger preference for power-orientedrewards, individual performance-based reward and, financial rewards than Korean employees. In addition, Indian employees placed more value on job security and non-performancerewards than Korean employees.
