1. CONTENTS (1) RESEARCH OBJECTIVES The purpose of this paper to identity the seasonal residential movement affected by 'Singugan' which is local custom in Jeju Island in South Korea. Furthermore, we find out contemporary impacts of 'Singugan' on current local residential real estate market. The 'Singugan' means a specified and implicit agreed moving period: 8 days between the fifth day after Daehan(大寒, the last of the 24 seasonal divisions of the year, around January) and two days before Ipchun(立春, the first of the 24 seasonal divisions of the year, around February). (2) RESEARCH METHOD This research is based on a survey method to reflect 'Singugan . The survey is used 8 individual interview on the traditional custom 'Singugan' in Jeju Island. The 8 participants are consisting of various occupations such as a Jeju-folklorist and the professor of Jeju National University. We adopts a face-to-fact interview. The interview was conducted from August 8, 2008, 2008 to August 9. (3) RESEARCH FINDINGS 'Singugan' is used to describe an implicit agreed seasonal moving period widely adopted in Jeju Island. This is the one of traditions in residential moving patterns observed in local Jeju Island. 2. RESULTS We investigate that 'Singugan' is the special phenomenon observed only in Jeju Island. We confirms that this local tradition is adopted by local residents in Jeju Isalnd from a long time ago. We believe that local residents in Jeju Island consider 'Singugan' worthy to preserve. Thus, we expect that the local residents in Jeju Island will try to preserve the specified traditional moving period, 'Singuan' and wish to develop it.
