Effects of home-based board games programs on cognition and depression for elderly with mild cognitive impairment-pilot study

Background/Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of home-based on board game program on cognitive function and depression in the elderly with mild cognitive impairment. Methods/Statistical analysis: This study was conducted for 4 weeks for the elderly with mild cognitive impairment. The changes of cognitive function and depression were measured using the mini-mental state examination Korean version (MMSE-K), the montreal cognitive assessment Korean version (MoCA-K), and the korean form of geriatric depression scale (KGDS). Findings: The results of the MMSE-K and MoCA-K of the subjects after the board game program showed a positive change especially and the effect of the KGDS result in reducing the depression of the subjects. After the board game program, the attention of MMSE-K and MoCA-K in the subjects was improved, and KGDS was effective in decreasing depression. Improvements/Applications: The board game program is considered to be a useful therapeutic approach for the improvement of attention and depression of elderly people with mild cognitive impairment through home visit. © 2018, Indian Journal of Public Health Research and Development.
