초록

This study attempts to re-define a role, which livestock industry plays in the national economy, through examining how its production has economy-wide impacts on those industries closely related with it using the analysis based on a demand-driven input-output model. The results show that, based on the input-output table published by the Bank of Korea in year 2000, production in livestock industry generates production-induced effects of 9,522.9 billion won on the national economy, which is 3.1 times more than its production. They also show that it creates employment of 579,655 workers in the economy excluding the livestock industry. These results imply that the livestock industry plays an important role in the national economy. Besides, it is also found that an increase in market-share of imports in livestock product market would contract the production of industries closely related with the production of livestock industry and would in turn produce negative impacts on the national industry.
