Journal of Coastal Research, SI 64 (Proceedings of the 11th International Coastal Symposium), 1672 - 1675. Szczecin, Poland, ISSN 0749-0208 In the advanced research of the Yangtze River basin in China, the processing time for the satellite gravity data was relatively short (less than two years), and the change in the water storage due to the stepwise impoundment of the Three Gorges Dam that was in the central part of the Yangtze River basin was not considered. In this study, the long-term changes in the water storage of the Yangtze River basin for about seven years were examined using the monthly gravity field model of the GRACE satellite. The results were analyzed in connection with extreme weather/climatic events that occurred from 2006 to 2008. It was verified that the GRACE satellite gravity data can clearly represent the annual average water storage changes and the seasonal changes in the Yangtze River basin. Also, the impacts of severe weather/climate events could be detected based on the yearly water resource statistics data by calculating. Additionally, analyzing the TWS change in the GRACE monthly gravity field model via spherical harmonics analysis with a maximum degree of 60 and smoothing with a 500-km radius.
