Print samples laminated with oriented polypropylene film (OPP) or coated with UV varnish and acrylic emulisions were disintegrated at low or high consistency and analyzed to evaluate the recyclability. The samples laminated with oriented polypropylene film were well separated from a paper to film form at each pulping consistency, regardless of the adhesion method (water, oil or heat based). It is believed that this not only prevents the film from entering the process, but also facilitates the removal of the film form the pulper. However, since the UV varnish layer is fragmented by the pulping action, UV varnish layer fragments smaller than the screen slot size are considered to be a cause that can affect the quality of the final product after passing through the screen and mixing into the stock. Acrylic emulsion has been used as a coating agent or adhesive in various industries, so the pulping efficiency of acrylic emulison coated paper is good, and there is little residue filtered through 0.15 mm slot screen. © 2020 Korean Technical Assoc. of the Pulp and Paper Industry.
