Effect of Pre-treatment Method of Organic Sludge on Environment of Landfill Site

초록

This research was performed to evaluate the effect of pre-treatment method of organic sludge on environment in the landfill site. Dried, composted, and solidified organic sludges as pre-treatment methods were used for this research. 1,420 L of landfill gas (LFG) was generated during 390 days from the lysimeter with solidified organic sludge, which was 300 ~ 400 L higher than those with dried and composted sludges. The generations of LFG with dried, composted, solidified organic sludges in kg as VS were 31.1 L/kg, 53.3 L/kg, and 219.4 L/kg, respectively. Dried sludge generated LFG the most greatly and degraded sludge the most rapidly. Therefore, a facility for LFG use would be possible in considering dried sludge as pre-treatment. Solidified sludge was rapidly got to stabilized stage of 60 ~ 70% CH4. Maximum 300 ppmv of H2S was generated from the solidified sludges and 20 ppmv was generated in dried and composted sludges, whereas CH3SH and (CH3)2SH showed opposite status different from H2S generation. Leachate was not generated in the dried sludge. However, it was generated in composted one after 250 days. In case of solidified sludge, leachate was generated slightly and continuously after 70 days and 80% of rainfall was run out from the surface. BOD5 and CODCr of leachate in composted sludge were 11 ~ 20 g/L and 45 ~ 103 g/L, respectively. However, BOD5 and CODCr were in the range of 250 ~ 300 mg/L after 1 year in case of solidified sludge. As the results, it was evaluated that solidification of organic sludge was one of the most appropriate pre-treatment for the drying, composting, and solidification during the landfilling.
