초록

Continuous use of fossil fuels has exacerbated environmental issues as well as threatens the insecurity of global energy. In an effort to reduce dependency on non-renewable energy sources, lignocellulosic biomass is considered as the potential source of renewable energy in recent years. In this context, rice straw has a vital role to play. In this article, electricity generation from rice straw in two-chambered microbial fuel cells was investigated. The microbial fuel cell produced the open circuit voltage of 0.705 +/- 0.007 V. The microbial fuel cell produced the working voltage of 0.601 +/- 0.02 V (1,000 Omega) with 1 g/L rice straw. The maximum power density of 190 +/- 13.6 mW/m(2) was obtained with 1 g/L rice straw corresponding to the maximum current density of 506 +/- 54.47 mA/m(2). The results of this study can contribute to improving understanding of and optimizing electricity generation from rice straw in microbial fuel cells.
