초록

We investigated the spatial distributions and changes by period of disaster areas due to heavyrainfall using the amounts of damages data at all cities and guns (county-level) in South Korea during1981-2012. The severe damage areas by heavy rainfall were distributed at the upper region of the HanRiver in the northern South Korea and at the lower regions of the Geum River and the Youngsan River inthe western South Korea during the 1980s. The amounts of damage in the western areas were decreasedfrom the 1990s until the 2000s. On the other hand, those in the upper areas of the Han River includingthe mountainous region in Gangwon province were increased in the 2000s. The most amounts of damagesby heavy rains were in July, followed by August, September, and June. The damages by heavy rainfall weredistributed over the whole country for the entire summer months in the 1980s. In the 1990s and 2000s,the rainfall damages were concentrated in August and July, respectively. And the September damage byheavy rainfall was little occurred in 1990s and 2000s.
