Specific Gravity and Glucose Content in Relative Wild Species of Potato

초록

To scren the breeding materials suitable for potato chips, the selected 67 lines from 15 relative-wild species of potatoes, which well produce their tubers under the long day conditions of Korea, were evaluated for the specific gravity and glucose content.Solanum stenotomum group showed the highest mean specific gravity of 1.125 with the clonal variation, while S. demisum groupshowed the lowest one. However, the higher lines than 1.080 of specific gravity were most selected from S. brachistorichum and S.chacoense, repectively. The mean glucose contents of 10 species, such as S. bulbocastanum, S. brachistorichum, S. chacoense, S.cardiophylum, S. infundibuliforme, S. kurtzianum, S. phureja, S. sucrense, S. stoloniferum, and S. tuberosum at harvest were lessthan 0.25%, indicating that these species could be used as the genetic resources in potato breeding for processing. S. demisumincluding S. pinatisectum, S. spegazinii, S. stenotomum, and S. vernei, however, had higher glucose contents with the range of0.29 to 0.60, unsuitable level for chip procesing. After storage at 4oC for 90 days, glucose contents in some clones of S. brachis-torichum, S. cardiophyllum and S. phureja species were very stable, so they were expected to be the god genetic resources for coldchiping. After reconditioning of cold-stored potatoes for 3 weks at 20oC, glucose contents in most of species except for S. demis-sum, S. pinnatisectum, S. spegazzinii, S. stenotomum, and S. vernei, were decreased to the levels at harvest.
