낮은 자아통제와 병리적 도박: 범죄에 관한 일반이론(General Theory of Crime)의 경험적 검증

초록

This research testifies Gottfredson and Hirschi's 「General Theory of Crime」 as an explanation of the pathological gambling of casino visitors in Korea. The scale developed by Grasmick et al.(1993) is used to measure the concept of self-control, and SOGS(the South Oaks Gambling Screen) is used to measure gambling addiction. 831 casino visitors in Kangwon Land is sampled by method of space sampling. Results of this research is summerized as following: 1) the scale of self-control developed by Grasmick et al.(1993) shows the different results in exploratory factor analysis on the total sample, male sample and female sample. Especially, questionare items to measure 'impulsivity' and 'simple task' is loaded to the same factor. 2) Other variables like opportunity and other theories like Differential Association Theory is needed to add to independent variables because the power of explanation of the sel-control to gambling addiction is not strong(R2= .121 in total sample). 3) the self-control concept measured by Grasmick et al.'s scale is not different in explanation to gambling addiction between male sample and female sample. 4) Results of this research show some problems in originality of self-control concept. Except 'physical activity' and 'self-centered' among the 6 subdimensions of Grasmick et al.' scale of self-control, this study used 4 subdimensions('impulsivity', 'risk-taking', 'simple task', and 'temper') as independent variables. Because 'impulsivity' and 'risk-taking' that are the components of self-control concept has been used as independent variables to explain the criminal activities and imprudent behaviors in psychology, 'simple task' and 'temper' must have the significant power of explanation to gambling addiction additively. But results of hierachical multiple regression analysis show that 'simple task' and 'temper' have no significant impact on the gambling addiction.
