초록

The purpose of this paper lies in finding the similarities and dissimilarities in the definitions of words that have the adjective ‘insufficient’ as their characteristic descriptive. The first step is to group the definitions of the words according to their circumstantial usage. The ‘insufficient’ in first group of words tends to describe properties of ‘object’ in that it means “something does not reach the expected amount or degree.” The word in second group tends to describe properties of ‘human characteristics’ in that it means ‘the intelligence does not reach its normalcy.’ Here, the property of ‘object’ can be subdivided into ‘lack’, ‘substandard’, and ‘incompleteness’, and the property of ‘human characteristics’ into ‘body’ and ‘mind’. The ninety words in the focus of this research, that have the adjective ‘insufficient’ as their characteristic descriptive, are divided again into groups according to their meanings.
