Design of a DOI detector using block scintillator for achieving high resolution and sensitivity; [고분해능과 고민감도 달성을 위한 블록형 섬광체를 사용한 반응 깊이 측정 검출기 설계]

A detector with high sensitivity and high resolution was designed by arranging block scintillators and six-sided photosensors. When designing a detector using scintillation pixels, sensitivity loss occurs due to the area of the reflector inserted between the scintillation pixels. When using block scintillators, sensitivity can be improved by the area of the reflector. By arranging photosensors on all sides of the scintillator, spatial resolution can be improved by measuring the depth of interaction (DOI) layer. A detector with block scintillators and six-sided photosensors was designed through DETECT2000 simulation, and the measurement accuracy of the DOI layer and spatial resolution were evaluated by obtaining flood images. Images for the XY, XZ, YZ planes and images for the XYZ axes were obtained, and it was confirmed that the positions of gamma-ray events were imaged without overlap in all planes. In addition, it was confirmed that the DOI layers could be divided into nine layers. The spatial resolution was measured by obtaining profiles of the first and fifth lines of the XY plane, and it was measured to be approximately 0.18 mm. Very good spatial resolution can be achieved by using fine scintillation pixels, but this can result in a loss of sensitivity. It is considered that the loss of sensitivity can be minimized when using the detector designed in this study, and the possibility of high spatial resolution was also confirmed. © (2025), (Korean Physical Society).
