Development of a coherent vacuum ultraviolet source at 104-108 nm generated by four-wave sum frequency mixing in Hg vapor

The development of a tunable vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light source within the range of 104-108 nm, based on the four-wave sum frequency mixing (SFM) in mercury vapor, was presented. The conelike glass capillary of the mercury cell transmitted most of the VUV light while restricting the flow of mercury and buffer gas. Across the covered spectral region, usable power of the order of 109 photons per pulse was obtained.
