The Lived Experiences of the Middle-aged Women's Anger Lee, Yongmi1) 1) Post-doc. Fellow, School of Nursing, the University of Michigan Purpose: This study was done to understand the essences and the meanings of anger experiences in middle-aged women. Method: Van Manen's hermeneutical phenomenological method was used. Data were collected by in-dept interviews with eight middle-aged women who were from forties to sixties, fictions, essays and a TV drama script. Results: Surges surfaced by lost meaning of one's otherwise elaborated life: Situational context of breaking the balance of one's stable life. Self-internalization to subside conflict: A part of middle-aged women's efforts to suppress and swallow anger. The writhe of expressing desperation to be recognized: The expressed anger experience by actually letting their anger surface and expressing to others. Unmanageable weight of one's hurt: This part indicates how they conceive their anger experiences. When the anger lump continue to accumulate in their mind, it can cause excessive and irrational responses. Conclusion: Four essential themes move not in one dimension, but in more dynamic and circulating characteristics. Also, the middle-aged women's anger experiences, which are formed under unique Korean socio-cultural contexts and moral values, imply their efforts to maintain harmonious relations with others, with an exclusion of self-centered thoughts, and more towards relationship with others.
