This paper presents a new approach to increase the resolution of a depth map as well as to improve the sharpness or reduce the blurring. For this, we use a core component that incorporates the high-frequency components of the depth map to conventional interpolation schemes such as bilinear, cubic and bilateral interpolations. The high-frequency components are derived by unsharp-masking that detects the abrupt intensity variations at edge boundary and smooth variations at the surface region. Experimental results show that the objective measurements, sharpness degree and blur metric are clearly improved. © 2013 ICIC International.
