The ambient temperature is gradually increasing due to global climate change. The ambient temperature is closely related to the rail temperature, and the increase of the ambient temperature can affect the axial force in the CWR and the CWR track safety. Therefore, to overcome the climate change effect, it is necessary to analyze the impact of climate change on CWR track and provide countermeasures. In this study, the change in rail temperature of CWR was predicted using future climate change scenarios and the applicability of the CWR-setting temperature criteria was reviewed for the future. For this, the relationship between the ambient and a rail temperature that is suitable for Korea was first studied using actually measured data in a line in operation; then, the applicability of domestic CWR-setting temperature for the future was evaluated. © 2024 The Korean Society for Railway.
