This study evaluates the applicability of the web-based K-GeoP platform for earthwork volume estimation. Drone LiDAR data were used as the reference terrain, and national digital elevation models from 2023 and 2024 and drone-derived digital surface models were prepared as comparative datasets. Earthwork volumes were computed in K-GeoP and in three commercial geographic information systems, QGIS(Quantum Geographic Information System), Global Mapper and ArcGIS. The end-area method and a grid-based height-difference method were applied under a common horizontal and vertical datum. For 50cm and 5m resolutions, cut volumes from K-GeoP generally agreed with the reference within about 1 to 4 percent, which indicates practical applicability for medium-resolution earthwork planning. At 5cm resolution, however, web service constraints related to tile level, memory and the treatment of negative elevations caused calculation failures or increased discrepancies when drone models were used. Differences between national elevation model vintages also produced volume bias depending on local terrain conditions. Overall, the results suggest that K-GeoP is suitable for earthwork simulation when resolution and reference datums are consistent, but that improvements in tile loading, support for negative elevations and robust high-resolution processing are required for very fine grids and special terrains such as tidal flats and steep slopes. © 2025, Korean Society of Surveying.
