The Effects of Exercise Addiction Tendency on Life Adjustment of Leisure Sports Participants

The purpose of this study was to examine how the workout-addiction disposition of those who enjoyed sports for all affected their life adjustment. The subjects in this study were 190 people, including 108 males and 82 females, who were selected from a population who played lifetime sports. After a survey was conducted with self-administered questionnaires, the collected data were analyzed by figuring out frequency and percentage. In addition, one-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were implemented. The findings of the study were as follows: First, regarding the relationship of demographic characteristics to exercise-addiction disposition and life adjustment, the demographic characteristics of the selected people made a partially significant difference to their workout-addiction disposition and life adjustment. Second, as for the relative contribution of workout-addiction disposition to each variable of life adjustment, their family adjustment was most affected by their own withdrawal symptoms(β= .172), followed by need for exercise(β=.156) and emotional attachment(β=.687). Their workplace adjustment was under the most influence of need for exercise(β=.223), followed by emotional attachment(β=.091) and withdrawal symptoms(β=.085). And their adjustment to leisure and social activities were most impacted by need for workout(β=.296), followed by withdrawal symptoms(β= .066) and emotional attachment(β=-.005).
